Read moreInitially Mūkusalas iela stretched to the building in Mūkusalas iela 42, where the street continued as Oskara iela. This is where in the middle of the 19th century, in approximately 1872, the steel foundry was built, including all the infrastructure required at the time, warehouse and residential houses. Meanwhile in about 1912 the factory of Carl Zeiss for the production of optical equipment was established. The owners of the building changed, and in approximately 1930 when the factory was purchased by the entrepreneur Leibovics, the production of optical devices was replaced by the production of radio receivers. Meanwhile, during the Soviet era the area hosted the flagship of Latvian radio construction – Riga Radio Factory (RRR), which continued to develop the area by building new industrial buildings.
It is worth noting that some buildings dating back to the founding of this area have been preserved and reconstructed, or will be reconstructed in the near future. Currently most of the buildings are used for offices, sales premises and warehouses.
The contemporary Mūkusala Business Centre covers 6 ha of land on the left bank of the River Daugava between the Railway Bridge and the Island Bridge, and the area is divided from Jelgavas iela and Vienības Gatve by Kīleveins Ditch. Mūkusala Business Centre plans to develop this historical area of Riga with the purpose of continuing the tradition of innovation, and establishing a venue for successful companies.
Mūkusala Business Centre has been developing the area of the business centre for 10 years. During the reconstruction work it was transformed into a business park with conveniently placed offices and providers of commercial services, as well as an area where employees and customers could prosper. The current area of the business centre covers an area of 5.8 ha with 23,000 m2 of premises. The company has started the new development cycle, which will permit the expansion of the premises to 35,000 m2. The transformation is being implemented in cooperation with the chief architect of OUTOFBOX ARCHITECTURE bureau Pēteris Bajārs, as a result of which the area will receive new, modern and accessible architecture to become the new face of Riga, and especially the left bank of the River Daugava.
The needs of users have been defined as the principal objective for the further development of the area. Since we spend a lot of time in offices, the surrounding infrastructure should be convenient and accessible so our physical and emotional needs can be met in one place. Therefore, while developing the new buildings in the area, we will pay special attention to the development of new services that make the life of people at the office centre more comfortable. Within the new development plans, we have thought about a wider choice of catering services, development of a sports centre, dry-cleaners acceptance point, and other services you may need.
The range of services required by offices will also be expanded by offering a convenient conference and seminar centre, equipped with the necessary technical solutions. We also plan to develop a business lounge for business negotiations or brief work sessions outside the office. Interactive information stands will be installed in the premises to improve the orientation of business centre visitors and employees, and provide information on the services available in the business centre, as well as the services provided by other companies in the business centre.
New improvements and changes to the visual appearance of the area are also planned. In summer 2015 we plan to improve the area adjacent to Mūkusalas iela by expanding the car park, making it visually more attractive and greener, as well as creating bicycle stands and providing convenient pedestrian walkways. We also plan to install an informative sign identifying Mūkusala Business Centre at the entrance from Mūkusalas iela. In addition, a new car park with 120 places will be built behind Building No. 3 by the end of the year, and several buildings in the business centre will get a make-over in terms of painting and exterior finishing.
Mūkusala Business Centre – for everybody who finds being in the centre important.
